e-MFP’s English-language Financial Inclusion Compass 2021 publication is launched, examining current trends, future focus areas, challenges, role changes – and how to ‘build back better’.

With the recent rapid growth of impact investing and the accompanying concerns over "green-washing" and "impact-washing," the European Commission has been working on a package of regulations to ensure that impact and sustainable finance investments are carried out within a standardized reporting framework. This includes, among others, the recently published Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR) and associated publications.

Action Groups (AG) are an important part of e-MFP activities allowing members to join forces and work together on specific projects and activities in areas of common interest. e-MFP is delighted to announce the launch of 2 new AGs - the 'Better Metrics for Effective Savings’ and the WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) Action Group.

The e-MFP WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) Action Group aims to tackle key information/knowledge gaps in the water and sanitation sector, and to map and define water and sanitation indicators that can be widely used by different stakeholders in the financial inclusion sector, particularly by the investors in their decisions.

Weathering the Storm II synthesizes the experiences and lessons from 16 institutions in 14 countries on four continents that faced a variety of crises over 15-year period. Its aim is to use these lessons to inform those facing future crises, including the impact from the COVID-19 pandemic. Over 500 participants took part in online EMW2020, from over 60 countries with more than 130 speakers across 55 sessions over several thematic streams

The 2020 European Microfinance Award has been awarded to Muktinath Bikas Bank Ltd., a Nepal-based bank, in recognition of its savings expertise.

#EMW2020 may be fully online – with new streams, session formats and networking models on a new dedicated platform – but it retains many of its core characteristics as a member-driven conference, supported by the Luxembourg government.

The three finalists go to High Jury for evaluation and selection of winner, to be announced at online Ceremony during European Microfinance Week (EMW 2020) on Thursday 19th November, 2020

Relive the EMW2019 Plenary Sessions

EMW2019 closed with a call for increased engagement by the financial inclusion sector, which as the work over the previous year on the Microfinance Award has shown, can play an indispensable role in helping those most affected prepare for a difficult future.

At a ceremony held at the European Investment Bank in Luxembourg, Paulette Lenert, Luxembourg Minister for Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs, presented the 10th European Microfinance Award to APA Insurance Ltd of Kenya.

Through the initiatives these outstanding organisations have put in place to increase vulnerable populations’ resilience to climate change, they demonstrate the innovation and dynamism of this most critical area of financial inclusion.
